Congratulations - you built an MVP, and you’re ready to launch!
...and you’re in good company. One of the most common reasons founders come to the forum is to announce a launch of their product and get feedback from other founders. My goal is to make the Show Startup School channel the first and friendliest place to launch.
(You will continue to launch again and again, which is my way of saying, you should definitely watch or re-watch YC Partner Kat Mañalac’s video lecture about launching.)
Here is a great **example launch post. We recommend emulating this style in your post.**
Here’s my list of top tips for launching on the Show Startup School channel in the forum:
- The best launch posts are 2-4 paragraphs long. They clearly describe what you’ve build, why you’ve built it, who it’s for, and what feedback/asks you have of the community.
- Think about your audience. You are posting to a community of founders. What do you, as a founder, want to read? (If you don’t want to read a bunch of sales pitches, chances are, most other founders don’t either!)
- Use a conversational tone. Share the story of why you started tackling this particular problem and building your product like you would tell it to a friend.
- If you believe some founders on Startup School will be real users, make sure you have a specific call to action for them to try the product.
- Make a specific request. The more specific you can make your ask, the better. Do you want people to provide feedback on your landing page? Are you looking for bugs when people download the app? Do you want introductions to a particular kind of customer? Write that question clearly at the end of your post.
- Respond in the comments. Even if you’re just saying thank you, engage with the founders who take the time to share their feedback.
- Follow up. If you make changes based on the feedback from founders in the thread, share this news. Some of these founders may be among your earliest users who love your product or support it with an upvote on Product Hunt in the future!
Good luck with your launch!
